Suffolk Women vs Stony Brook 03-30-2013

The sun finally came out for a rugby match! It was a gorgeous spring day, with temperatures in the 50s and a slight wind when Bull Moose took on Stony Brook University at Stony Brook.

Bull Moose started strong with a scrum at the 50, and within the first 10 minutes Chelsea Ahearn-Feketa burst through Stony Brook’s defensive line to score a try and Alex Mostrom made the conversion kick. Bull Moose worked together and was able to overload Stony Brook ending with Kaitlyn Oaks scoring a try soon after with Alex making the conversion.  Stony Brook then with their fast backs and ball handling skills were able to break through Bull Moose defense and score a try, making their conversion.  This only made Bull Moose put more pressure on Stony Brook, and soon Reggie Ferraro was able to crash through Stony Brook’s defense and score a try.  With great passing and teamwork, Alex Mostrom was able to receive the ball and sprint in a 30 meter break-away to score a try and she also made the conversion. Bull Moose was starting to get tired but, they played smart, conserved their energy, and the forwards brought the ball to the try line. Stony Brook’s defense was strong, but with a quick pop pass to Tina Regan, she was able to pass the defense and score her first try. With the half-time blown, Bull Moose was leading and a score of 31-7.

In the second half Bull Moose didn’t let up. Even when Stony Brook had a break away, fullback Carla Guerrero did her part with a beautiful open field tackle of the Stony Brook offense. Alex and Tina both broke the Stony Brook defensive line in a break away scoring two more tries for Bull Moose in the second half. Alex made both conversions. Stony Brook was able to break the Bull Moose defense one more time, making the conversion and ending the game with a final score of 45-14. Showing strength in the herd, Bull Moose stayed strong and worked together. Let’s keep it up!
